Some words hurt. Some words sting. Some words really penetrate to the bone, the the marrow, to the deepest depths of your heart. Why do certain words hurt so much? Because they’re true. Because I’m the one saying them, echoing the very same heartless insults that have been hurled at you so many times in the past. Because these words speak to the whole, the totality of you. When it’s all said and done, when you’re subjected to an objective evaluation, this is how you score. These words are the summation of your identity. But there’s a choice. You can wallow in those painful words and let them indispose you. Or you can embrace them and accept their truth as a part of yourself. You can learn to love the sad truth about yourself and even enjoy your pathetic existence, so long as you learn to accept your place.
